One New Zealand recognised globally for sector-leading sustainability at the Global Sustainability Awards 2025

One New Zealand was named Medium Company of the Year at the Global Sustainability Awards in London on September 10, with judges commending the company for its “sector-leading, purpose-led sustainability” and its ability to embed ESG principles across operations at scale.

The recognition reflects One NZ’s long-term commitment to renewable energy, circular device programmes, AI-driven network efficiencies and the delivery of resilient connectivity for communities and emergency services.

In keeping with its sustainability commitments, Nicky Preston, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at One NZ, chose not to travel to London for the ceremony. The award was accepted on the company’s behalf by Charles Van Tuyckom and Madeleine Simmonds from Morrison & Co’s London office. Morrison & Co is the investment manager behind Infratil, owner of One NZ.

Driving measurable impact for Aotearoa

One NZ’s sustainability leadership spans environmental, social and governance initiatives designed to deliver long-term value for customers, communities and investors. This includes:

  • Transitioning to renewable energy across operations
  • Scaling circular programmes that extend the life of mobile devices and reduce e-waste
  • Using AI to optimise network performance, reducing energy use and emissions
  • Strengthening emergency resilience via One NZ Satellite, ensuring communities stay connected in times of need
  • Investing in youth and community programmes through Te Rourou, One NZ Foundation.

“Sustainability has been part of our DNA for more than two decades, but Infratil’s ownership has allowed us to go deeper and faster,” said Preston. “Infratil’s philosophy of investing in ideas that matter—where what’s good for the planet and communities is also good for investors—has been critical to lifting our ambition and accelerating impact.”

Recognition for teams powering sustainable change

In addition to the Medium Company of the Year Award, One NZ also received Highly Commended recognition in the Sustainability Strategy Award category.

“These awards are a powerful acknowledgment of the mahi of our people, partners and communities who are driving sustainable change and shaping a better-connected future for Aotearoa and beyond,” Preston said.
