Partnering with Echo on reusing, reselling and recycling e-waste

Working together to manage end-of-life network equipment and technology

As part of our Sustainability Kaupapa, One New Zealand is pleased to be partnering with Echo on minimising our electronic waste (e-waste) footprint and reducing waste to landfill.

Nicky Preston, Head of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs, explains: “Limiting e-waste is one of our top five most material ESG issues. We’ve been working to mature our processes over the past year and we’re pleased to be now working with Echo on this.

“We have several legacy technology decommissioning projects underway, such as replacing 3G with 4G and 5G and upgrading our IT infrastructure, and so expect to see an increase in e-waste at least in the short term.”

Redundant equipment is separated into different waste streams including old computer equipment, circuit boards, copper cables, lead batteries, and all types of metals, which are then processed for reusing, reselling, or recycling.

“We have a goal to recycle at least 95% of our network waste, and aim to continue this in partnership with Echo,” Nicky adds.
