Massive boost for Vodafone Warriors partnership

Media release - Vodafone today announced New Zealand’s longest professional naming rights partnership will be extended for another term.

The partnership started in late 1998 and Vodafone CEO Russell Stanners said he’s delighted the relationship is continuing.

“We’ve supported the Vodafone Warriors through thick and thin, and we are proud to be making another commitment to this fantastic club that unites and connects fans and communities from every corner of New Zealand like no other – much like our network!” Russell said.

The announcement comes as Vodafone and the Warriors mark a 20-season partnership this year, which has been highlighted by innovation and transformation for both parties along the way.

“Both Vodafone and the Warriors have celebrated many milestones during our long-standing partnership,” Russell said.

“From Vodafone’s perspective, we’ve made the leap from launching txting in New Zealand when we first signed with the Warriors, to showcasing the potential of 5G and rolling out our Internet of Things network in 2018.

“Over the past year we’ve been thrilled to develop the Vodafone Warriors Stadium Live App to bring fans closer to the action than ever before with exclusive access to eight Sky camera angles to stream footage, replays and highlights live from any mobile device.

“Last month we also launched the new Grandstand Millionaire feature that gives fans the opportunity to win a share of $1 million at any Vodafone Warriors Mt Smart Stadium game this season, which combines our innovation expertise with their game day passion,” Russell added.

Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George said the club’s partnership with Vodafone is beyond compare.

“It’s difficult to find words to adequately capture how much we appreciate the commitment, loyalty and passion Vodafone brings to our relationship,” he said.

“To have a naming rights sponsorship of this scale into what is now a 20th season is nothing short of amazing.

“Vodafone has been there for us unconditionally and we’re thrilled our relationship has been extended by another two years.”

During Vodafone’s sponsorship era, the Vodafone Warriors have twice made the NRL grand final (in 2002 and 2011), won the minor premiership in 2002, secured a spot in the play-offs seven times and claimed the NYC premiership three times (2010, 2011 and 2014). In 2011 the Vodafone Warriors achieved the rare distinction of having their teams in each of the three grades on grand final day at ANZ Stadium (NRL, New South Wales Cup and NYC).
