Global testing reveals Vodafone New Zealand has world’s fastest mobile download

MEDIA RELEASE - Global leader in broadband speed testing, Ookla, has revealed Vodafone New Zealand is fastest in its Global Net Index of telecommunications companies for May 2014.

The index – based on millions of recent cellular test results from Ookla’s popular speedtest.net app on both iOS and Android platforms – compares and ranks cellular download speeds from telecommunications companies around the world. New Zealand was ranked number one for mobile download speeds from 107 countries – and Vodafone was fastest, averaging downloads of just over 28.5 Mbps.

This means Vodafone New Zealand customers can download content and games more than three times faster than the global mobile download average of 8.0 Mbps. At 28.5 Mbps, it takes just under a minute to download a 45-minute TV show, and seven minutes to download a two hour movie.

Vodafone’s Chief Technology Officer, Sandra Pickering, has total confidence in her network staying top of the ratings.

“Vodafone has consistently achieved the highest speeds in testing by speedtest.net, which reflects the tens of millions of dollars we spend on network development each year. Ookla’s results are based on millions of real users from all over the world and it proves Kiwis are getting the best of the best.”

Pickering continues: “We’re focused on giving Kiwis the best network experience, leading in speed, reliability and coverage. We were first to bring 4G to New Zealand, and our 4G network now reaches 58% of New Zealand’s population, four international destinations – and more to follow.”

Vodafone New Zealand has been in the top position four times in the past five months.
