Vodafone NZ delivering top network in Southland

Independent testing shows Vodafone customers have access to the best mobile data and voice calls in the region

Independent benchmarker umlaut, part of Accenture, announced Vodafone NZ offers their customers the overall best network in Southland, as well as for both the data and voice calling categories.

This reinforces umlaut’s findings from earlier this year which named Vodafone as New Zealand’s ‘Best in Test’ mobile network, scoring the highest overall plus for data and voice call quality.

In the data category for Southland region, Vodafone achieves the highest overall score with the best average download throughput, and in the voice category, Vodafone achieves the highest overall score with the best speech quality.

The umlaut certification report for the Southland region, which was conducted using a Samsung Galaxy S21+5G device, shows:

  • Overall, Vodafone scored 593/1000 for their network, compared with Spark’s 429 and 2Degrees’ 400
  • In the data category, Vodafone scored 373/600, compared with Spark’s 244 and 2Degrees’ 214
  • In the voice category, Vodafone scored 220/400, compared to Spark’s 185 and 2Degrees’ 186
  • Vodafone also has 5G available in 48% of the region compared to Spark with 29%. 2Degrees has not yet launched 5G in Southland.

The drive testing route was independently selected by umlaut to best represent coverage in the region and drive testers travelled approximately 865 km around Southland.

The umlaut benchmarking methodology is the de-facto industry standard today. It is applied in more than 120 countries measuring over 200 mobile networks worldwide.
