Vodafone scores big for their Hamilton network

Independent testing by international benchmarking leader umlaut shows Vodafone customers have access to the best in voice calls and mobile data

Vodafone New Zealand continues to invest in their mobile network and can now claim the best network title in Hamilton, as reported by independent benchmarker umlaut, part of Accenture. After a drive test which took place in early June, umlaut announced that Vodafone NZ offers their customers the best network in both the data and voice calling categories.

In 2021-2022 Vodafone NZ built and upgraded 21 cell-sites in the local area, improving coverage for Hamilton residents and those that visit the city.

Thaigan Govender is excited to deliver these upgrades to a city on the rise. "As New Zealand's fourth largest city, Hamilton is a location that houses a diverse range of people working across a multitude of sectors. As more and more people move to the city, with its population increasing by 10% in the last five years alone, they expect stellar connection and great networks. We're pleased to do our part, providing vital infrastructure to help future-proof for Hamilton's needs."

The umlaut certification report for Hamilton, which was conducted using a Samsung Galaxy S21+ 5G device, shows:

  • Overall Vodafone scored 873/1000 (87%) for their network, compared with Spark’s 778 (78%) and 2Degrees’ 659 (66%).
  • In the data category Vodafone scored 495/600 (84%), compared with Spark’s 435 (73%) and 2 Degrees’ 370 (62%).
  • In the voice calling category Vodafone scored 378/400 (95%), compared with Spark’s 343 (86%) and 2Degrees’ 289 (72%).

The drive testing route was independently selected by umlaut to best represent coverage in the region and drive testers travelled approximately 550 km around Hamilton.

The umlaut benchmarking methodology is the de-facto industry standard today. It is applied in more than 120 countries measuring over 200 mobile networks worldwide.
