2 Cloud, 2 Migration – the fast and furious need for Cloud Migration

Vodafone New Zealand offers safe and secure cloud migration to businesses to prevent operational downtime

Cloud Migration is here, and a lot of New Zealand businesses aren’t ready to take the leap, despite potential costs if they don’t. New Zealand businesses are well behind the curve when it comes to digital infrastructure, but Vodafone (soon to be One New Zealand) has the necessary expertise to help them through partnerships with both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. A new era in cloud capability is here and adoption will be fast and furious which is why our end-to-end hybrid and public cloud offering, Vodafone Cloud Services is so vital to future proofing businesses who want to stay competitive.

According to Information Technology Intelligence Consulting (ITIC), 40% of enterprises said a single hour of downtime can cost between $1 million and over $5 million – exclusive of any legal fees, fines or penalties. In a Gartner survey, 98% of companies stated the cost of IT downtime ranged from $100,000 to $540,000 per hour.

Glenn Johnstone, Head of ICT, believes cloud adoption has the potential to protect New Zealand businesses from lost productivity. “Pre-Covid-19, the conversations about cloud were concerned with modernising infrastructure for quicker innovation, faster time to market and cost optimisation. While those are still relevant and important to a business’s bottom line, the pandemic has bought into focus other conversations such as business continuity, remote workforce management, secure access to business-critical applications, and business agility.”

“Another conversation in a post-Covid world, especially with talent leaving New Zealand shores once again, is businesses needing to do more with less. Many businesses need to work smarter with a smaller technical resource pool - especially in the tight talent market we currently have.”

When it comes to business continuity, cloud services can protect from lost revenue.

“Cloud will ensure businesses can continue operations during events such as technology outage, hardware failure or even unexpected disasters such as fire or flood. With cloud services, employees can simply login normally from their laptops and perform work as usual.”

Using cloud services can increase operational resilience and avoid these high costs of IT disruption as well as ensure staff can work safely from all over the world as remote and hybrid-working continues to rise. This improved flexibility can increase staff attraction and retention, giving businesses a competitive edge over their competitors.
