One NZ recognised on global stage for AI innovation in telecommunications

Summer Collins, Ruan Coetzee, Neeharika Chowdhary, Sharina Nisha, and Ashel Reuben celebrating the win

One NZ has become the first New Zealand telecommunications provider to receive a prestigious TM Forum Catalyst Award, with an AI-powered project recognised among the world's leading telecommunications innovations.

The award was presented at TM Forum's Digital Transformation World event in Copenhagen in June, one of the telecommunications industry's largest global gatherings, where communications providers and technology companies showcase new solutions shaping the future of connectivity.

Developed in collaboration with Vodafone, Salesforce, AWS, Personal (Argentina), Aria and Virtusa, the award-winning project, The Butler Did It, was selected as one of just six winners from 49 international Catalyst teams involving more than 1,350 participants.

The project explores how artificial intelligence can help businesses achieve better outcomes by combining connectivity with intelligent digital services.

Rather than simply providing network connectivity, AI-powered digital "Butlers" can help organisations optimise network performance, monitor security risks, proactively resolve service issues and improve customer experiences. The concept demonstrates how telecommunications providers can deliver greater value through AI-driven services tailored to business needs.

Neeharika Chowdhary, GM AI & Data Products, One NZ travelled to Copenhagen to accept the award. “This recognition is something we're incredibly proud of because it reflects the ambition and capability of our people on a truly global stage. Being recognised by TM Forum alongside some of the world's leading telecommunications and technology companies shows that New Zealand innovation can compete with the very best.

At One NZ, we're focused on becoming one of the world's most AI-enabled telecommunications providers, using AI to create smarter, more proactive experiences that help customers solve real business challenges and unlock greater value from their connectivity. This award validates our commitment to building practical AI solutions that will shape the future of telecommunications and deliver better outcomes for our customers.

TM Forum's Catalyst programme brings together leading communications providers and technology partners from around the world to solve real industry challenges, test emerging technologies and help shape future industry standards.

Also representing One NZ on the global project were Sharina Nisha, Ashel Reuben, Ruan Coetzee and Willem Senekal, who worked alongside international partners to bring the concept to life.

Sharina Nisha, GM Transformation is leading the technology AI innovations at One NZ and added, “We realised early on the potential of AI to transform our customer and network operations. We’ve been using automation and machine learning for many years, which provided a solid foundation to apply more advanced solutions. This award highlights our long-standing commitment to innovation, and our team’s contribution to the next generation of AI-enabled telecommunications services.”
