Back in 2022, when designing network improvements, our team asked ourselves a question. ‘What if we gave every One NZ customer business-grade connectivity to cloud service providers such as Microsoft?’
We achieved that goal by building multiple dedicated direct links between our network and Microsoft’s data centres in two different countries. While there are providers who can offer Microsoft peering services to their business customers, One New Zealand was the first telco in NZ to implement Microsoft Azure Peering Service for Voice, which enables real time connectivity like voice and video calling to remain up when a fault is detected. It means incredible reliability and bandwidth for One New Zealand customers. It’s essentially a four-lane highway where before there was a gravel road.
Reliability is one of the most important criteria when it comes to business and public sector customers, and so it was front of mind.
We work with organisations that quite literally run this country on an everyday basis. Whether that’s banks, power companies, government agencies, fleet management, they all need to run seamlessly 24/7. If mobile coverage is the number one request from customers, number two is to make sure the service works, and is as reliable as possible.
By becoming a Microsoft Azure Peering Service partner back in 2022, and building this dedicated peering service, One NZ is meeting that need.
We’re delighted the investment is being recognised by our customers as a reason to choose One NZ. Since 2022 we’ve also put a major focus on the service element of our business, restructuring how we work to let our people offer customers personalised service, making the technology work for them, and their business needs.
Customers don’t necessarily care about the specifics of the technology, what they are focused on is great outcomes. Our team works with Kiwi businesses to deeply understand their business, saving them cost, complexity, and give them time back that they can spend with their own customers.
We’re stoked by the success of the Microsoft Azure Peering Service, and it lays the groundwork to consider a similar model for other partners in the future.
