One NZ ranks 2nd in Oceania for sustainability performance in global benchmarking

13-point increase in global GRESB score reflects progress on our sustainability kaupapa

We’re proud to share One NZ has been ranked second in Oceania for sustainability in the data transmission sector in the annually released GRESB results.

GRESB is the leading global benchmark for sustainability, measuring how companies around the world manage their environmental, social and governance (ESG) impact. More than 600 infrastructure asset operators took part in this year’s assessment, with One NZ placing 25th globally among all data transmission companies.

This year, we lifted our score to 93 out of 100, a big jump from last year’s 79. We’d set ourselves a goal of reaching 80 by FY26, and we’re excited to have gone beyond that – now rebasing our ongoing target to maintain above 90 going forward.

Nicky Preston, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, says the result shows the progress we’re making through our Sustainability Kaupapa.

“Our Sustainability Kaupapa brings together three focus areas – Greener Aotearoa, Thriving Communities, and Trusted Partner – and guides the way we work towards a better-connected and more sustainable New Zealand. GRESB provides us with a global benchmark for ESG performance and it’s great to see our score steadily increase as we embed more sustainable practices into our business.

“From reducing our emissions and e-waste, to building an inclusive workplace and strengthening partnerships with iwi and communities, this score is the result of mahi across our entire business.”

This recognition follows other recent milestones, including the validation of our greenhouse gas reduction targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and being named Medium Company of the Year at the Global Sustainability Awards.
