Have your say on future Vodafone cellsite upgrades with Pin Drop

Vodafone NZ launches innovative new service to crowdsource potential network improvements

Want 5G cell coverage at your house? Have you had a call drop out at your favourite park? Vodafone wants to know about it through their newest service, Pin Drop.

Pin Drop is an interactive digital tool which invites users to drop a pin on a map where they want a better network experience, giving Vodafone customers a direct way to have their say on network planning. Vodafone New Zealand already invests hundreds of thousands of dollars every year, upgrading or building its smart network, and this innovative new tool will allow them to hear directly from customers. Pin Drop data will be used alongside other considerations to help guide the cellsite acquisition process, with Vodafone upgrading or building approximately 300 cellsites per year.

If you want to use Pin Drop, the process is simple.

  • You visit our website at pindrop.vodafone.co.nz
  • You input your postcode.
  • You drop your pin & select what category of network you need attention on (dropped calls, slow data, lack of 5G).
  • This data gets shared with our Network team to help guide the acquisition of new sites and direct them to where New Zealanders need upgrades the most. Keep an eye out for updates on how we’re improving coverage for New Zealand!

Tony Baird, Vodafone New Zealand’s Director of Wholesale & Infrastructure, is excited for the customer insight this new tool will create. “We consider many different elements when choosing where to build or upgrade cellsites and this new tool will provide rich, aggregated customer feedback that will make our planning even better. As one of Aotearoa’s leading connectivity companies, we thrive when delivering connection to our customers and this will put more power in their hands. This tool is the first of its kind in New Zealand and we’re predicting consumers will make great use of Pin Drop.”

Vodafone was recently awarded the best mobile network in New Zealand by independent benchmarker umlaut, and wants to ensure further upgrades and new builds represent the needs of the communities who directly benefit. While not every pin dropped will result in a new cellsite they will help give Vodafone a broader view into the needs of New Zealanders.
