One New Zealand has been notified of the successful regulatory clearance by the Commerce Commission for its acquisition of Dense Air and its spectrum holdings, to be deployed to boost its 5G network.
Commenting on the transaction One New Zealand CEO, Jason Paris said: “This win will help to put a rocket under our network, turbo boosting the experience for our customers who will enjoy faster upload and download speeds, more reliable connectivity and better coverage across the country.”
The 2x35MHz blocks of 2600MHz will offer customers a better mobile experience, with the spectrum expanding the deployment and coverage of mobile networks.
The proposed acquisition of the Dense Air business and its radio spectrum will be the latest in a series of investments by One New Zealand in its network, which has been independently awarded New Zealand’s ‘Best in Test’ mobile network by global leader in mobile testing umlaut, part of Accenture, for the last two years running.
One New Zealand continues to build and upgrade hundreds more mobile sites each year to expand 4G and 5G coverage for its customers. Its upcoming collaboration with SpaceX will see 4G spectrum used to provide satellite coverage to customers with smartphones, starting with a text service in 2024, with voice and data to come in 2025.
“As I said back in November, whether you are a streamer, gamer, want to stay in touch with loved ones or run your business on the go, we’ve got you covered,” says Paris. “I look forward to our customers feeling the benefit of the new capacity as we switch it on, and we’ll keep working hard to improve our network for you.”
