One New Zealand strengthens cyber defence capability to protect customers from threats

One giant leap for business.

One New Zealand, working with its cybersecurity partner DEFEND, has announced it is strengthening New Zealand’s cyber defence capabilities by enabling threat protection for anyone on the One New Zealand network.

This new capability, developed by DEFEND, utilises their Advanced Threat Management platform called SHERLOCK, and Cyber Threat Intelligence provided by the GCSB’s National Cyber Security Centre’s Malware Free Networks service (MFN), and uses it to protect Mobile and Fixed Broadband customers from threats at the network level.

Chief Enterprise Officer Lindsay Zwart said, “We are delighted to work with our partner DEFEND, to offer their sophisticated threat management system (SHERLOCK) to a significant proportion of New Zealand. Every year cybersecurity becomes more of a threat, and we are proud to help do our bit to protect those vulnerable and ensure customers and their businesses are safer with One New Zealand.”

Making the service accessible is critical, as Lindsay explains “Customers don’t need to do anything to access the service, we’ll deploy it for all of our fixed Broadband and mobile customers automatically. Our customers will enjoy extra security at no additional cost. We stand a much better chance of protecting customers who click on a malicious link in a spam text for example, by blocking the connection before it does any harm.”

One New Zealand and DEFEND are currently deploying the technology, with the launch coming soon.
