New Zealanders just keep hitting holiday records, as we connect with friends and whānau across the motu this festive season, using Vodafone’s Smart Network to send well wishes within the country and overseas.
Vodafone (soon to be One New Zealand) customers used 2054 TB (Tera Bytes*) of data across Christmas Day and Boxing Day, compared to 1777 TB of data across New Zealand during the same two days last year, cracking a 16% increase year-on-year.
That’s equivalent to Kiwis streaming more than 1,369,362 hours of video* in just two days, or watching a whopping 684,000 Christmas movies.
The most popular time to go online - such as stream content, video-call, or check out the latest online deals - was between 8pm and 9pm on both Christmas and Boxing Day, with the peaks seeing 65 TB and 72 TB of data used respectively.
Head of Network Services, Sharina Nisha, wants to give a special shoutout to all the people working across the holiday period to keep New Zealanders connected. “Without the work of approximately 100 engineers and even more call-centre and retail staff, our customers wouldn’t be able to have such an awesome summer, especially over the Christmas and New Year break. Our networks may sometimes feel like magic, but this is all done to the tireless effort of those behind the scenes.”
“Not only do we work 24/7 to keep our customers connected, but we also boost service in the summer hotspots that need it most.”
Locations benefitting from our upgrades across the country include Paihia, Great Barrier Island, Raglan and more. Vodafone will also be setting up cell sites on wheels (COWs) at festivals like Hidden Valley, Northern Bass and Bay Dreams.
