Best for voice, data and the most reliable – One New Zealand is the best mobile network in Aotearoa New Zealand (again).

In 2023, One New Zealand has been awarded New Zealand’s ‘Best in Test’ mobile network by global leader in mobile testing umlaut, part of Accenture for a second year running.

One New Zealand has been awarded New Zealand’s ‘Best in Test’ mobile network by global leader in mobile testing umlaut, part of Accenture for a second year running.

Building on last year’s win for best network, this new award follows continued significant investment by One New Zealand to expand and improve its 4G and 5G networks across the motu.

umlaut undertakes extensive comparative testing of more than 200 mobile networks across 120 countries.
In New Zealand it independently benchmarked and compared the performance of the three major telecommunication companies on things like data browsing, video streaming, and voice call evaluation.

One New Zealand was awarded Best in Data, Best in Voice, Best in Reliability (a new category), and Best in crowd-sourced Quality, which crowdsources data over a period of six months; a clean sweep of award categories, outperforming competitors 2Degrees and Spark.

“We were proud to win best network last year and since then our network teams haven’t rested on their laurels – they’ve been hard at work across the country, upgrading and building 450+ 4G and 5G sites, improving coverage, quality and download speeds for One New Zealand customers,” says One New Zealand Head of Mobile Access Networks Thaigan Govender.

“We’re delighted to have outperformed our competition again this year, and to be awarded Best in Test for 2023.”

The umlaut certification report for 2023 shows:

  • One New Zealand has the best mobile network in New Zealand scoring 784 points out of 1000 overall (78.4%), compared to 689 (68.9%) for 2Degrees and 656 (65.6%) for Spark
  • The One New Zealand network scores highest on voice and data performance for major cities, towns and roads with its customers receiving the fastest download speeds and best voice call clarity.

“The work to build a better network for our customers never stops. We’ll continue our laser focus on improvement throughout this year and beyond, building or upgrading a further 500+ 4G and 5G sites in 2023 alone and preparing for next year’s launch of 100 percent mobile coverage across the country through our collaboration with SpaceX.”

Umlaut uses a robust method for measuring network performance, more sophisticated than some other network testers.
